About Us

The Collies of Karavel are a family endeavor. In 1972, with the acquisition of our first show Collie "Dawn" (Wyndfall's Majestik New Dawn), our entire family fell in love with this magnificent breed. "Dawn" was a constant companion to our three young sons and set the 'mark' for what was to come. She was elegant and intelligent; she was a friend and confidant to the boys; she was their protector and sleeping buddy . . . in short, she was what a Collie is -
a TRUE MEMBER OF THE FAMILY!

Through "Dawn", we learned about the intrigue of the show ring, and although "Dawn" herself didn't complete her Championship, her first son "Kane" (CH Karavel Sudden Wyndfall) did make his contribution to the history of the breed. Despite the fact that "Kane" was not used at stud many times, he produced 12 champions - 10 rough and 2 smooth. Most notable among his progeny was, of course, CH Starr's Blue Jeans (bred by Pam and Lou Durazzano) and Am/Can CH Wyndfalls The Main Event (bred by M. McDonough). These two blue roughs are behind a great many of the top winning and producing Collies of today.

During Kane's years, I was spending most of my time raising three sons, and did not have that many litters of Collie puppies. Now that Jerry and I are grandparents of six fabulously gorgeous and intelligent grandchildren, our time has become more usable for other endeavors. I began anew my search for Collies that would fill my eye with their beauty and allow me the comfort of knowing that a KARAVEL Collie would be healthy in ALL aspects of its life. To my delight, I learned that Marguerite McGrath (Clandara Collies) had been utilizing Kane's outstanding qualities to contribute to her own 'family' of beautiful Collies. Thanks to Marguerite's unbelievable generosity, CH Clandara Silver Screen came here to KARAVEL to stay for awhile and entertain my girls! "Silver" traces back to Kane four times in the first three generations.

And, so . . . on the pages of my internet 'home', you can see some of the results of the past few years. Where known, all pedigrees are marked with "n/e" (to denote those animals that are not affected with Collie Eye Anamoly) and their OFA status.
